11月6日、ひろしま未来協創センターの協力を得て、英語グループ主催の学術講演会を開催しました。
ビジネス英語および異文化コミュニケーションに造詣が深いアイリーン・クーパー先生をドイツ・ボンの大学よりお招きし、7号館学術ホールにて学生140名以上を対象に、90分間の参加型講演を行いました。
講演のタイトルは「文化と言語：『今』と『これから』を生きるためのツール（Language and Culture: The Tools for Today and Tomorrow）」で、「架け橋としての英語」、「文化とコミュニケーション」、「これからの時代に求められるスキル」、「視点」の4つのテーマを中心にお話しいただきました。これらのテーマについて具体的に示すために、講演では事前アンケート（学生110名以上が回答）の結果が共有されました。
学生は、スライドとワークシートを参照しながら各テーマについて解説を聞いた後、個人・ペア・小グループでのアクティブラーニング活動に取り組みました。会場全体での挙手によるアンケートや、質疑応答の時間もありました.。
最後に、英語グループ代表の河内紀彦准教授よりクーパー先生に記念品が手渡され、参加した教員も交えて記念撮影が行われました。講演は非常に好評で、学生・教員双方にとって有意義な学びの機会となりました。
On Thursday, November 6, in collaboration with the Center for Co-Creation, the English Teachers Group hosted a guest speaker for students. Eileen Kuepper, a senior lecturer from the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in Germany with experience in business English and intercultural communication, gave a 90-minute interactive lecture to more than 140 students and teachers in Academic Hall, Building 7. The lecture title Language and Culture: The Tools for Today and Tomorrow covered 4 themes: (1) English as a bridge, (2) culture and communication, (3) skills for the future, and (4) perspective. To bring these themes to life, data from a pre-talk questionnaire (responded to by over 110 participants) were incorporated and shared in the talk. The explanation of each topic, which included slides and a detailed worksheet for notetaking, was followed by an active learning exercise conducted solo, in pairs, or in a small group, as well as in “hands-up” group surveys of student responses, and finally a chance for Q&A. At the closing, Norihiko Kochi, Chair of the English Teachers Group, provided Eileen with a small gift commemorating her visit to Shudo, before some group photos were taken on stage with those teachers taking part. Initial feedback on the guest speaker talk has been very positive as there were useful and valuable takeaways for all ‘learners’ in the room, both students and teachers.
