前回のレポートでは学校行事や部活動に参加する留学生たちの様子をお伝えしましたが、今回はボランティア活動に参加した留学生からレポートが届きましたので、それを紹介します。このほかにも英語を使って新しい友だちとコミュニケーションをとる中で、少しずつ身も心も成長していることがそれぞれの報告から伝わってきます。留学期間もあと1ヶ月半、充実した日々を過ごしてほしいと思っています。

Recently, I have lunch with my “KIWI” friends. I was nervous at first, but now I find myself talking about topics and moving around the school together. Talking with them lets me learn about foreign games. I learned tongue twister and played some hand games with them. I was surprised to learn that hand games are also played in other countries, and I was happy to play these games. As each day passes, I feel more and more like, “Two more months to go, I wish I could stay here longer. I wish I could stay here longer. It's not all fun and there are some hardships, but I will do my best for the next two months.

(私は最近、ニュージーランドの生徒の子と一緒にお昼を食べています。初めは緊張していた私も今では自分から話題を振ったり、一緒にクラスを移動したりしています。ニュージーランドの子と話していると、海外の遊びを知ることもあります。最近したことは英語の早口言葉を教えてもらったり、手遊びをしたりしました。海外でも手遊びってあるんだということに驚いたし、海外の遊びに触れ合えて嬉しかったです。一日一日が過ぎることに「あと二か月か、もっとここに居たいな。」という気持ちが強くなります。楽しいことばかりじゃなくて大変なこともあるけど、あと二か月頑張ろうと思います。)

Last Sunday, I participated in volunteer work for Children’s Day. I helped with face painting there. At first, I thought it would be easy, but when I actually started painting, I found it more difficult than I had expected the other volunteers were at drawing. For girls, many of them wanted cute designs like butterflies and hearts, which were relatively simple to draw. However, for boys, there were many requests for characters like a tiger and spider-man which were a bit more challenging. But, as I kept drawing, I felt “I was improving,” and started to enjoy it a lot. Additionally, I became close friends with the Filipino children I volunteered with, making it a truly wonderful experience.

(日曜日にchildren’s dayのボランティアをしました。私はそこでフェイスペインティングのお手伝いをしました。初めての体験で簡単かなと思っていましたが、実際に書いてみると思ってたよりも難しく、また他のボランティアをしている子たちがとても書くのが上手でとてもびっくりしました。女の子はリクエストで蝶々を書いたりハートを書いたり比較的簡単なのが多かったですが、男の子はトラやスパイダーマンなどが多くて少し難しかったですが、書いていくごとに最初よりはうまくなっている気がしてとても楽しくなっていきました。さらに一緒にボランティアをしていたフィリピンの子と仲良くなり、とても素敵な経験ができました。)
