ニュージーランド中期留学は後発隊も現地に到着し、全員が元気に新しい生活を始めています。ミドルトンに通う生徒たちはこの週から学校への登校や少しずつ授業も始まり、本格的な留学生活になりつつあります。シャーリーとエイボンサイドに通う生徒たちはオリエンテーションや仲間づくりのプログラムに参加し、すでに新しい友人もでき、楽しく過ごしています。それでは、留学2週目の報告レポートをいくつかお伝えします。

The school started from this week. I was very excited and very nervous on the first day. At first, I couldn’t understand teacher’s words because it was too fast for me to catch the meanings. My school has morning tea break between the 3rd and 4th period. It seemed long break time to me. And I was surprised that there was no morning meeting. So we have to go the first class when we come to school. NZ students were very kind and friendly. So it is easy for me to talk with them.

(今週から授業が始まりました。初日、私は期待と不安で胸がいっぱいでした。最初、先生があまりにも早く喋るので、ほとんど内容を理解することができませんでした。私の学校は3限と4限の間にティータイムの休憩時間がありますが、私にはその時間がとても長く感じました。そして私の学校には朝礼がありません。そのため、私たちは登校後、すぐに1限の教室に移動する必要があります。ニュージーランドの生徒たちたちはとても親切で親しくしてくれるので、話しかけやすいです。)

It has been almost a week since I arrived in New Zealand. Everything is a new experience for me, so I’m excited and nervous every day. The school orientation began the day after we arrived in New Zealand. I quickly made friends, especially with Bruno. He is from Vietnam and he can speak English well. He always talks to me and makes me laugh. During the school orientation, teachers and Kiwi students took us to many places in the city. Bruno liked the playground which we used on the first day. And he began to say every day, “Let's go to the playground again!” Besides, we also enjoy playing basketball and soccer. Our school has not started yet, but I’m already enjoying New Zealand a lot. I will start classes next week and I hope t o do better.

(ニュージーランドに到着して1週間が経とうとしています。何もかもが私にとって初めての経験で、興奮と緊張の毎日です。ニュージーランドに着いた翌日から学校のオリエンテーションが始まりました。特にブルーノとはすぐに仲良くなりました。彼はベトナム出身で英語が上手です。彼はいつも私に話しかけて笑わせてくれます。学校のオリエンテーションの間、先生やキウイ（＝ニュージーランド）の生徒たちは、私たちを街のいろいろな場所に連れて行ってくれました。ブルーノは、初日に使った公園の遊具が気に入ったようです。そして毎日、 「また遊び場に行こう！」と言うようになりました。ほかにも、私たちはバスケットボールやサッカーをして楽しんでいます。まだ学校は始まっていないけど、すでにニュージーランドをたくさん満喫しています。来週から授業が始まるので、もっと頑張りたいです。)

Our school began from this week. Students and teachers are so friendly that I could make friends with them. As I talk with my friends, teachers, and host family, I came to feel fun to talk in English. I'm having a really hard time taking classes because I have to take classes in English even though I can't even do it in Japanese. In my daily life, I came to find out what I heard but it’s a little hard to make myself understood in English, so I need to study English hard. My host family tell me things like "You say this in this situation," so I think the quickest way to master English is to talk to people. Two weeks have passed in the blink of an eye. I want to take care of each day and enjoy the rest of the time as I study! The most important thing about studying abroad is whether you have the courage to speak up!

(今週から授業が始まりました。学校のみんなはとてもフレンドリーですぐ友達もできました。友達や先生、ホストファミリーと話しているうちに、英語で話すことが楽しく感じてきました。授業は、日本語でも危ういのに英語で授業を受けるので本当に苦戦しています。日常生活では、聞き取ることはできるけど、自分の言いたいことを英語にできないことがあるのでしっかり勉強しています。ホストファミリーが「こう言う場面ではこう言うんだよ」などと教えてくれるので英語を習得するには人と話すのが近道なのかなと思っています。あっという間 に二週間が終わりました。一日一日を大事にして残りの時間もしっかり楽しんで勉強していきたいです！留学に大切なのは、話しかける勇気があるかどうかだ！)

次回のレポートからは、ミドルトン以外の2つの学校でも授業が始まっていますので、その様子についてもお知らせできると考えています。日々、大きく成長している留学生徒たちの今後にご期待ください。
