* For international students applying to the Faculty of Commercial Sciences, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economic Sciences, the Faculty of Human Environmental Studies, and the Faculty of Global and Community Studies, Hiroshima Shudo University does not conduct its own Japanese language proficiency tests. Instead, the Japanese language proficiency of these students is evaluated based on the sum of the scores they obtained on the Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, and Listening–Reading Comprehension sections of the "Japanese as a Foreign Language" test provided by the EJU (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students) program (a standardized testing program offered by JASSO); for evaluations conducted by the University, the sum of the original scores earned on these test sections (0–400 scale) will be converted to a scale of 0–100.
** For international students applying to the Faculty of Humanities and Human Sciences and the Faculty of Health Sciences, Hiroshima Shudo University does not conduct its own Japanese language proficiency tests. Instead, the Japanese language proficiency of these students is evaluated based on the sum of the scores they earned on all sections of the "Japanese as a Foreign Language" test provided by JASSO's EJU program: (a) their total scores on the Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, and Listening–Reading Comprehension sections, which range from 0–100 (original total scores on these sections (0–400 scale) will be converted to a 0–100 scale) + (b) their scores on the Writing section, which range from 0–50.

Instead, such liberal arts skills of these students are evaluated based on their total scores on the "Japan and the World" test provided by JASSO's EJU program; for evaluations conducted by the University, original scores earned on this test (0–200 scale) are converted to a scale of 0–50.
**** Questions asked at an interview will include those intended to evaluate the Japanese reading comprehension skills of each student.
