Incoming Exchange Program

HSU has exchange agreements with 39 universities in 18 countries and regions worldwide. The university accepts exchange students from partner institutions twice a year, in spring (April) and fall (September), and has established a support system to ensure that exchange students can study and live comfortably.
Students who wish to study at HSU for one or two semesters should contact the International Office at their home university. After receiving a nomination (recommendation) from the student’s home university, the application documents will be transferred to us through that office.
Application deadlines are as follows:
  • Spring semester: Late October of the previous year
  • Fall semester: Mid-March of the same year
For more details, please refer to the fact sheet sent to each partner university.

Buddy Program

HSU operates a “Buddy Program” in which international students and Japanese students are paired one-on-one. Buddies support international students in all aspects of student life, including course registration advice and help with everyday concerns. They also help promote mutual cultural understanding by participating together in on-campus events and local community activities. Through this program, international students can quickly adjust to life in Japan and focus on their studies with confidence, while Japanese students gain valuable experience in intercultural understanding and international exchange. The Buddy Program is an important initiative at HSU, fostering strong relationships of trust between international and Japanese students and supporting a multicultural, inclusive learning environment.
