Welcome Party for New International Students
HSU holds a welcome party for newly enrolled international students twice a year, in spring and fall. Through interaction with fellow international students, Japanese students, and faculty and staff, participants can ease anxieties about daily life and studies while building international connections. In a friendly atmosphere with self-introductions, games, and food, students take their first step into a new study-abroad experience.
Language Courses (Mini Foreign Language Sessions)
HSU offers language courses called “Mini Foreign Language Sessions,” in which international students introduce their native languages and cultures to Japanese students. Participants can casually learn a wide variety of languages—such as English, Chinese, and Korean—directly from native-speaking international students. In addition to basic conversational expressions, classes also introduce daily life, culture, and customs, making these sessions popular as a venue for international exchange.
International Student Exchange Bus Tour
Each year, the university organizes an International Student Exchange Bus Tour to promote interaction among international students and between students and faculty and staff. In the 2025 academic year, approximately 40 international students participated and visited Izumo Taisha Shrine in Shimane Prefecture. While experiencing Japanese history and culture, participants enjoyed interacting with friends and spent a fulfilling day together. This bus tour provides a valuable opportunity for international students to experience regional attractions and deepen bonds with peers from diverse backgrounds.
International Student Forum
HSU hosts the International Student Forum as a place for Japanese and international students to learn together and deepen their inter-cultural understanding. Under an annual theme, students share ideas through presentations, group work, and discussions, broadening their perspectives. The theme for the 2025 academic year was “Turning Study Abroad Experience into a Career: Shaping Your Dreams through Career Choices.” Participants discussed their experiences and future goals and considered “the next step toward realizing their dreams” together with peers from different cultural backgrounds. The forum holds significant value not only as an international exchange event but also as a learning opportunity with a focus on the future.
